Thirty of our Year 10 students participated in a public speaking workshop with 'Speak Out' on Wednesday 20th November. During the workshop students developed their confidence and oracy skills in front of the group. The students have received a certificate for their efforts throughout the day and were showing Coundon values from start to finish. Students who were seen to show particular expertise in public speaking throughout the day were: Maliki Ridley, Archie Wright, Archie Wright, Ethan Jones, Eva Buckley and Fatoumatazahra Sucko Keita. Student were lucky to be supported by our Student Council team: Mohammed Keita, Orlaith Marlowe and Grace Oldham who played a huge role in building student confidence throughout the day.
Student feedback notes, 'I want to do this more often in school', 'the whole day was perfect' and every student reported that they gained new skills in public speaking with 82% of students saying that their confidence for public speaking has increased.
Oracy is at the forefront of these workshops which we intend to implement throughout the year to support our Y10 students in their public speaking development and prepare them for their GCSE Speaking and Listening assessments.
