Enrichment
Sixth Form Enrichment is at the forefront of our vision for the school for an excellent Enrichment offer which focusses on developing the whole person. As part of this vision, we have three Enrichment pillars: Leadership, Innovation and Development which allow students to lead on Sixth Form student priorities, enhance their creativity and increase their skill set outside of their core curricular options. It is our priority to develop curious students who go on to ambitious destinations, it is as a result of our wide ranging Enrichment offer that students are engaging with ambitious programmes which develop critical thinking skills such as: EPQ, In2med and the Elephant Group.
Student Leadership is paramount to building connections between student voice and actions. Our Student Council is made up of 6 aspirational students from Year 13 who work tirelessly to improve the quality of the Sixth Form student experience. This has included building a highly successful social media presence and working with key staff members in the school to set up and support fundraising throughout the year.
At Coundon Court, all Year 12 students are required to engage in one Enrichment session per week. Some students choose to do this outside of school and others use their relationships with staff to build relationships with lower school students. One of our key priorities is to increase the visibility of our Sixth Form students across the school in order for them to act as role models for the lower school students. Through the successful launch of our Literacy Intervention programme, Year 12s have been supporting lower school students to increase their reading ages through paired reading. In addition to this, we regularly have an impressive amount of students volunteering to support or lead on whole school events.
We understand that trips and visits are some of the most highly sought after priorities for our Sixth Form students. This is imperative to their development as people and to provide inspiration and direction for their future. This enables students to develop their sense of service and prepares them to be well-rounded members of the community. Outside of a growing number of subject specific trips, we also offer rewards trips voted by students (this has included Ice Skating and Winter Wonderland), trips to a variety of universities and our annual trip to Germany and Poland.
Sixth Form Pillars for Enrichment
Work Experience Placements
All of our Year 12 students complete work experience placements shortly after joining us in the autumn term. We are proud to have an open door policy in our Sixth Form Support office to support students in finding the absolute best destinations for their placements. Of our 116 students in Year 12, 92% of our students were successful in finding placements independently this year. The other 8% of students completed placements in school as part of virtual work experience. As a result of work experience placements, we have several students who go on to continue part time work or placements from their work experience settings. Our aim is to continue to support and improve the quality of our placements each year to support the high quality destinations we support students with. From a survey sent to employers, we receive overwhelmingly positive feedback about our students and 98% of employers have informed us that they would accept Coundon Court students for placements in future, with the other 2% not being able to meet the needs of the student through their placement.
