School Meals

The catering at Coundon Court School is provided by Alliance in Partnership (AiP), who are a major provider of contract catering and support services to the education sector in the UK.

Awareness of eating well and living a healthy lifestyle is very important here at Coundon Court School. This is why the school is proactive in providing students with an insight in to our school meals with regards to health, nutrition and well-being.

Nutritional standards came into effect in secondary schools in September 2009; this has complimented the government’s standards for school food which we have been using successfully at Coundon Court for some time. These standards encourage better eating habits amongst our youngsters that will stand them in good stead and help them to maintain good health as they grow up.

Our student menus are different every day and include fish, meat and vegetarian options to ensure that we cater for everyone including special dietary or cultural needs.

Cashless Catering System

Coundon Court has installed a cashless system for pupils’ using the academy’s catering systems.

The system allows us to continue with the development of the meal service and provides us with a more efficient, faster and ultimately better quality of service across a number of other areas of school life.

This system incorporates the latest technology and eliminates the need for pupils to carry cash throughout the day, thus reducing risks. It is also biometric, so there is no need for pupils to carry a card as the system will recognize the thumb of the student at the pay points and at the tills.

Initially the system will be focusing on the catering aspect of school and, as such, no cash will be accepted at the canteen till points. Other areas of the cashless system will develop over time.

Any amount of money can be paid into a student’s account and money spent in the canteen will be deducted on a daily basis.

There are three payment options available:

• Online payments, via Parentpay Website (a minimum of amount of £10.00),
• Coin and note payments at the revaluation pay-points situated in the dining room and the ground floor of the Old House (any amount can be put into the machine) and
• By cheque.

A daily ‘spend limit’ of £5.00 is programmed into the system. This can be changed for an individual student by a parent/carer making a written request to our Finance Office to do so. We feel that parents will appreciate an initial upper limit in order that all of the credit cannot be spent on one occasion.

This cashless system will eventually be developed across the whole academy to allow payments for educational visits, music tuition, exam fees etc. to be made in the same way.
