Students arrive to us from primary school with a wide and varied experience of RE so our aim is to develop their understanding of the six major world religions and begin exploration of religious and non-religious beliefs, practices and values linked with a range of ethical and philosophical issues.
In Year 7 we begin by addressing their knowledge deficit and gradually develop their skillset for description, explanation, comparison, and evaluation. Students learn about religion (AO1) and from religion (AO2), giving them time to consider their own beliefs and values, whilst also appraising the religious and ethical perspectives of others. Our aim is for students to leave KS3 as religiously literate individuals with a secure understanding of the core knowledge strands for two main areas: Beliefs and Practices, Philosophy and Ethics.
